Ramsar Wetland Sites in India


The Ramsar Convention is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wetlands, recognizing the basic ecological functions of wetlands and their economic, cultural, scientific, and recreational value. It is named after the city of ‘Ramsar’ in Iran, where the convention was signed on 2nd February 1971. Since then, 2nd day of February, each year is celebrated as World Wetlands Day.

At present 170 nations are there as signatories. India enforced this treaty on 1st February 1982. Following is the list of Ramsar wetland sites in India.
